The MACHA has released the schedule for the 2010 Playoffs. With the league being split into two divisions this season, each of the Division winners will receive a bye into the Divisional Finals on Saturday, while the second and third place teams play "cross-over" games in the Divisional Semi-finals on Friday. By virtue of clinching the #1 overall seed, the defending champion UMBC Retrievers will play in Game 3 against the winner of Liberty Division #2 vs. Freedom Division #3. The Liberty Division Champion will play the winner of the Freedom Division #2 vs. the Liberty Division #3. Listen to all the games online at IMY Sports Radio.

Freedom Division Notes: With their two victories over Monmouth, the Rider Broncs own the tiebreaker over the Icehawks. NOTE: the standings page currently has Monmouth above Rider, but if the season were to end today, Rider would get the Freedom #2 seed.
Remaining league games:
Saturday, February 6; Monmouth @ UMBC
Friday, February 12; Rider @ UPenn

Liberty Division Scenarios: Penn State (22 points; 0 games remaining), Saint Joseph's (19 points; 3 games remaining), Temple (18 points; 4 games remaining), and Rowan (18 points; 2 games remaining) are all still in contention for the three Liberty Division playoff spots.
Remaining league games:
Friday, February 5; Saint Joseph's @ Temple
Saturday, February 6; Saint Joseph's @ Rowan
Saturday, February 6; UPenn @ Temple
Friday, February 12; Saint Joseph's @ Lafayette
Friday, February 12; Princeton @ Temple
Saturday, February 13; Temple @ Rowan

Rowan, UMBC Take It Outside
Posted by: webmaster
Friday, January 15, 2010

On a cold and clear Saturday afternoon in winter, hockey is played outside on frozen ponds in locales such as Minnesota and New England. But how about New Jersey? On Saturday January 9th that is exactly what happened. With the state firmly clamped in the grip of winter, Rowan University and UMBC squared off in the first game played outdoors in the history of the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

In what was tabbed as the New Jersey Pond Hockey Classic the two MACHA teams met outside under the bright sun and crisp 26 degree temperatures. A tightly played and fast paced game, thanks to the great ice, the teams deadlocked at 4 after a 5 minute OT ended scoreless.

Though the game had no clear winner there was a winner on this day. The purpose of the game was a dual one as it also served as a fundraiser for the Delaware Valley Multiple Sclerosis Society. Wendi Caulfield, wife of Rowan University head coach John Caulfield, battles MS and is in a wheelchair as a result of the debilitating disease.

MAHOA, the local referee organization of MACHA, as well as other leagues, graciously donated their time and talent to the cause. The 4 man crew volunteered their time as well. MAHOA director, Ed Giacomucci said ”we had so many volunteers we had to turn them down.”

Wendi Caulfield, who was unable to attend the game because of her health said, “its amazing the way hockey people support each other, I am touched, most of these guys have never met me and to do something like thisthey’re special people and I am so grateful.”

Anyone interested in joining the fight against MS can do so at the National MS Society website.
